Pat the chicken thighs dry then lightly season with SPG for extra color and flavor when we brown in a skillet. Heat the butter in a skillet and sear the chicken for 2–3 minutes per side. The chicken does not need to be fully cooked.
Place the sliced onion in the bottom of the crockpot and arrange the chicken thighs on top.
Whisk together the ingredients and pour the sauce over the chicken.
Cover and cook on LOW for 4½ hours or HIGH for 2–2½ hours, until the chicken is tender and reaches at least 185°F.
During the final 30 minutes, add broccoli in (optional).
Serve the chicken over steamed rice, spoon the teriyaki sauce over everything and finish with green onions and optional sesame seeds.
